Wild nature, historical buildings, a great number of sweet cafes and stylish restaurants, the sea and more pubs than you could ever visit: Scotland´s capital offers basically everything you need for the perfect travelling experience. We, a bunch of students who wanted to do something productive during the summer break, stayed here for three weeks. We observed every museum, got our hands on way too many scones, cakes and other sweet treats, made our way through Scottish classics like haggis and hiked more than once through the stunning landscapes nearby. All together we created this travel guide. The guide shows which sights are worth visiting, which locations you should absolutely not miss and which tours are the most fun. We hope it will help you to create the perfect journey.

Our guide is divided into three sections: see, do and eat. In the first segment you get basic information about famous sights or venues like the St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, Calton Hill or Greyfriars Bobby. Opening times, if there are some, are included in every article. In the second part we speak about activities in Edinburgh, like free ghost tours or hiking adventures. All of them are suitable for budget travellers. The last section evaluates cafes and restaurants, like ‘MUMS´Great Comfort Food’, ‘Lovecrumbs’ or the ‘Spoon’, where J.K. Rowling wrote a big part of the Harry Potter novels. Which location offers good Scottish food, what is over hyped and where can you get vegetarian or vegan options? The price ranges are included.

All pictures are taken by us, so they´ll definitely give you an authentic impression of the venues. We also included a historical part, so you get to know the (mostly dark) background of Scotland’s capital, alongside a short profile of every team member.

Without further ado, we wish you a lot of fun while diving into the variety of opportunities that Edinburgh has to offer, and hope that we provide a good splash of anticipation for your next big adventure.
